Planning your content

The beginning of a new year is an exciting time for your business. Especially after a year like 2020, it’s a promise of new opportunities. It’s also a great time to start planning and mapping out your content ideas for the year. Don’t know where to start? Here are some helpful ideas.

Set Purposeful Goals

One of the most helpful ideas to implement when coming up with new content is to think of your business’s overall goals in the year ahead. What do you want to accomplish? What message do you want to send? How can your content strategy fit in with those goals? This part does involve some research, but when done well, it relieves a lot of the stress moving forward. It also helps provide a framework for you to keep your content focused and purposeful throughout the year.

Cross-Promote

Great content doesn’t have to stay on one platform! To increase your exposure, cross-promote your content on different platforms with the goal of drawing people in with your information. For example, you could write a brief LinkedIn article with some highlights of a recent blog post you shared and then link directly to the post so your audience can read it there. Share one of your Tweets on your Instagram or Facebook. Cross-promote your brand’s Instagram stories with your YouTube channel. There are many different avenues you could take.

Break Information Into Series

Another helpful tip is to break down information-heavy content into more manageable pieces. Not only does this mean more focused content, but you also have more time and information to fall back on. Again, you might do this in several different ways. Instagram allows you to put content into Carousel posts, which typically perform well because of the high shareability factor. Create a series or playlist on YouTube centered around a specific topic that gives your brand credibility and exposure, particularly if your content is appealing and informative. Breaking down information works very well with blog posts, tweets, and other written forms because you can easily transition from one point to the next.

Experiment with Different Content Types

There are so many types of content out there, and you’re likely to connect with one or some of them over others. If you haven’t yet found the sweet spot for the content you want to produce, keep experimenting. Post several informational articles on LinkedIn if you haven’t already done so. Try Instagram’s Reels feature – the platform’s answer to TikTok – to create content that’s informative and engaging in 30 seconds or less. Do you prefer long-form video content? Start or grow your YouTube channel! There is something out there for everyone.
